A firefighter from the Jackson Department in Mississippi died after being shot by his romantic partner after having a fight. Her suspect barricaded herself in her home until the authorities managed to get her out and immediately arrest her and take her to jail.

The Jackson Police Department received an emergency call about an unresponsive person and responded to a home on Ferguson Drive. When officers arrived at the home, they discovered that the suspect was barricaded.

The woman, identified as Tammie Williams, 48, shot Gerald “Buster” Bates, 49, who was part of the Jackson fire department. Police said the victim was shot and killed after getting into a domestic dispute with Tammie, his romantic partner.

After urging Tammie Williams to leave the house and not having a positive result, multiple agencies responded to the scene, including Capitol Police, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office and the Byram Police Department, but the suspect He refused to leave the home.

The suspect was holding the gun and walking through the house

William was holding the gun and walking around the house and for more than an hour they tried to convince her to come out. Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said the SWAT team was called to assist with the situation.

SWAT elements fired tear gas into the building, and then demolished the entrance to enter the house and arrest Williams.

“On behalf of Fire Chief Willie Owens and the entire Jackson Fire Department family, our deepest condolences and prayers are extended to the family of our dear brother, Gerald Bates. Please keep his family and the Jackson & Byram firefighters in your thoughts and prayers,” were the words of Bates’ colleagues.

They had been together for 10 years

Gerald Bates and Tammie Williams had a 10-year relationship, and lived together at the home where the firefighter died, said his daughter, Gerrica Bates, the WAPT channel reported.

Firefighter Bates’ daughter, who also served in the Byram Department, said the relationship between her father and Tammie was always surrounded by violence and that, on several occasions, William threatened to kill her father.

“She told me on several occasions that she was going to hurt my dad. She was not going to go down without a fight and she told the truth,” Gerrica expressed to the same media outlet.

He added: “He did exactly what he said he was going to do. He put her over us, that’s how much he loved her. And this is what she did.”

This Monday, April 8, during the hearing, the judge denied bail to Tammie Williams, arguing that she is an extreme danger to the community, because when the police tried to get her to turn herself in, she refused.
