A Manhattan criminal who was trying to snatch a man’s chain early Sunday opened fire on the victim for resisting, while also shooting his own accomplice, authorities reported.
The pair of assailants confronted the 35-year-old victim as he was leaving a building near 12th Ave. and 50th St. in Hell’s Kitchen around 4:30 a.m., officials said.
When the man resisted, one of the subjects shot him in the arm. At some point, the shooter’s 21-year-old accomplice put himself in the line of fire and was shot in the back and hip, the police said.
The wounded suspect and the gunman fled in a white Honda Accord, where a hit-and-run driver was waiting for them, officers said and the Daily News reported.
Paramedics transported the injured robber to NYU Langone Health, where they were in stable condition. Charges against the subject are pending and officials have not yet released his name.
The authorities are searching for the other criminal and the getaway driver.
The victim was taken to Bellevie Hospital in stable condition, police said. Officials are trying to look for any links to the attackers.
A small trail of blood was followed Sunday afternoon from the sidewalk at the corner of the crime scene to the front entrance of a nightclub at the intersection.
The red stains continued from the sidewalk to the street, where there were broken bottle glass.
The NYPD’s Midtown North precinct, where the shooting occurred, is facing a spike in robberies in 2024, with 61 robberies through April 21, compared to 38 in the same time period last year. , an increase of more than 60%.
