Next May, if you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, you will be surprised to receive two payments instead of one.
SSI benefits are provided by the Social Security Administration and are intended for people who meet certain requirements for limited income, limited resources, blindness, age 65 or older, or a disability.
Children who are blind or have disabilities can also receive SSI.
Why will there be two payments in May?
Typically, the Social Security Administration distributes SSI checks on the first of each month. However, there are some times when this does not happen:
–If the first of the month falls on a holiday.
–If the first of the month falls on a weekend.
Since June 1st falls on a Saturday, June payments are brought forward one day.
That means your June payment will arrive on Friday, May 31, which also means you won’t receive a payment in June.
Will other Social Security benefits also be received sooner?
No. If you receive other Social Security benefits, you will continue to receive those on the normally scheduled day, since those payments are made on Wednesdays.
Here we share the dates on which May payments will arrive:
–May 3: Social Security payments for people who received Social Security before May 1997.
–May 8: Social Security payments for those with birthdays between the first and the tenth day of any month of the year.
–May 15: Social Security payments for people with birthdays between the 11th and the 20th of any month of the year.
–May 22: Social Security payments for people with birthdays between the 20th and the 31st of any month of the year.
