A 25-year-old man who was wanted in a serious assault case was shot and killed yesterday by NYPD officers in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan.
The unidentified young man was wanted for allegedly attacking a warehouse employee with a glass jar in Chelsea on April 7.
Yesterday’s shooting occurred near 7th Avenue and 24th West around 2 p.m. Authorities said that when members of a federal task force and the NYPD tried to arrest the young man, he went to the MaximEyes store. “Optical”. The officers chased him and that’s when the suspect pulled out a .40 caliber handgun.
The officers then fired their weapons, hitting the man several times in the body, he said. ABCNews. “I heard gunshots and the guy was on the ground fighting with the police,” said a witness named Luis. The young man was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.

A man who took video of the chaos said the scene looked like something out of a TV crime show. “Seeing something like this live and in person worries me, every minute something happens in the city,” said witness Randy Moreno.
A 26-year-old man who was with the suspect was taken to the police station for questioning. One officer suffered a minor cut to the head during a fight before the shooting.
The case remained under investigation by the State Prosecutor’s Office, as happens when someone dies during an operation or in police custody.
In a similar case, in mid-April an older man armed with a knife was shot to death by NYPD officers on a street in Queens during an alleged fight with a woman in the early hours of the morning.
