A 25-year-old man who was wanted in a serious assault case was shot and killed yesterday by NYPD officers in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan.
The unidentified young man was wanted for allegedly attacking a warehouse employee with a glass jar in Chelsea on April 7.
Yesterday’s shooting occurred near 7th Avenue and 24th West around 2 p.m. Authorities said that when members of a federal task force and the NYPD tried to arrest the young man, he went to the MaximEyes store. “Optical”. A man who took video of the chaos said the scene looked like something out of a TV crime show. “Seeing something like this live and in person worries me, every minute something happens in the city,” said witness Randy Moreno.
A 26-year-old man who was with the suspect was taken to the police station for questioning. One officer suffered a minor cut to the head during a fight before the shooting.
The case remained under investigation by the State Prosecutor’s Office, as happens when someone dies during an operation or in police custody.
In a similar case, in mid-April an older man armed with a knife was shot to death by NYPD officers on a street in Queens during an alleged fight with a woman in the early hours of the morning.
