Multinational pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca is in the middle of an international controversy after recognizing for the first time that its Covid vaccine could cause significant health problems for those who received it.

This admission before the British justice system has triggered a series of lawsuits by people who experienced adverse effects after being vaccinated with the company’s biological, including the so-called thrombosis syndrome with thrombocytopenia.

According to foreign media reports, AstraZeneca could face compensation of up to $125 million to plaintiffs as part of the legal settlements. The British media The Telegraph has highlighted that these new revelations have emerged in the context of a court case in which a patient, Jamie Scott, suffered an irreversible brain injury after being vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine in April 2021.

In Scott’s specific case, it has been claimed that after receiving the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine, he developed a blood clot and hemorrhage in his head which resulted in irreversible brain injury. The tragedy is compounded by the fact that the hospital warned his wife about the possibility of her husband dying as a result of complications.

Despite AstraZeneca’s public denials about the direct link between its vaccines and health problems experienced by individuals like Jamie Scott, a legal document filed by Scott’s defense admits the possibility of these side effects “in very rare cases.” However, the company has stressed the need for further research to fully understand the causal mechanism behind these adverse events.

Thrombosis syndrome with thrombocytopenia, a rare but potentially serious side effect, involves the formation of blood clots accompanied by a decrease in the count of platelets in the blood. Although AstraZeneca had noted the possibility of this adverse effect in a statement published in 2021, the company had not previously acknowledged these claims in court documents.
