No one can deny that Luis Fonsi has become one of the most important and impactful Latin artists on the current musical scene thanks to his enormous talent and his great musical repertoire. However, and to the surprise of many, the singer born in Puerto Rico could have had a career that was extremely different from the one he currently has.
During a recent interview with host Yordi Rosado, Fonsi revealed that he was about to be part of one of the most important boy bands of recent years: NSYNC.
As mentioned by the “Despacito” singer, he was in high school in the United States when he met Joey Fatone in person, a former member of the band, thanks to his role in the institution’s choir.
Luis Fonsi chose his career as a soloist rather than as a member of NSYNC
According to Adamari López’s former partner, Fatone witnessed Fonsi’s vocal talent, which is why he invited him, on several occasions, to the sessions he had with his colleagues in the group, which was in an early stage of development. construction and did not have the name they had for years.
However, according to the Latin singer, Fatone’s proposals, at first, were not really focused on Fonsi becoming a member of the band, but were just an invitation to sing together. However, and logically, if Fonsi had accepted, they would have led him to become an official member of the group.
Despite the invitations, Fonsi revealed that he preferred to go to study at the University of Florida and continue with his career as a soloist.
We are looking for a tenor, why don’t you join? And I told him: ‘We already experienced the group thing and I have a scholarship at one of the most important music universities.’ Then they became NSYNC and the five of them are brutal, they are very friends and things happen as they have to happen, I had to study and I went solo.”
In the same interview, Luis Fonsi revealed that if he had accepted Joey Fatone’s invitation, his life and artistic career would have been totally different from what he currently has. However, despite the years, the Puerto Rican revealed that he does not regret the decision he made.
Born in the late 90s, NSYNC became one of the most recognized and reputable boy bands in the world. With more than 70 million copies sold worldwide, as well as dozens of shows given around the world, the group achieved such an impact that it left an indelible mark on the international music scene.
Likewise, and less equally, the band became the platform for Justin Timberlake’s stardom as one of today’s greatest singers.
