The Tuzos del Pachuca, led by the Uruguayan Guillermo Almada, beat the Águilas del América, Mexican soccer champions, 2-1 this Tuesday to advance to the final of the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Emilio Rodríguez and the Colombian Nelson Deossa scored for the Tuzos, with a squad in which the youth players stand out, they took the series 3-2 thanks to a 1-1 draw last Tuesday at the Azteca Stadium, home of América.
Henry Martín scored for the Águilas, who with one of the most expensive payrolls in Mexico succumbed to the youngest squad in the local league, at 24 years old.
The Tuzos advanced lines at the beginning of the game and in the 12th minute, Rodríguez took advantage of a rebound generated by a shot by Venezuelan Rondón to define the 1-0 with his left foot without pressure from América’s defenders.
Two minutes later, Pachuca defined the tie with another rebound, now captured by Deossa, who fired a left-footed shot that goalkeeper Luis Malagón could not stop, making it 2-0.
Martín scored for América in the 23rd minute, when Alejandro Zendejas, from the right, served to Henry, who made it 2-1 with his forehead.
In the second half, the Águilas took control of the ball, but Almada’s team was the closest to converting, with a couple of shots by Deossa, at 47, and at 78, which Luis Malagón saved.
The Mexican champion was sentenced to 90, with the expulsion of his defender Israel Reyes.
Pachuca, which is seeking its sixth title in history in the Champions Cup, will face the best of another semifinal in the final, between the Mexican Monterrey and the American Columbus Crew, which will be defined this Wednesday.
