Bananas are one of the most popular fruits for being a source of nutrients and for their versatility, but many times they can ripen faster than we expect, so today we bring you some tips to keep them fresh for longer.

One of the secrets used in fruit stores, so that the bananas do not darken, is to avoid putting them in the refrigerators, since they are tropical.

It is important that they mature at the right pace, which requires them to be at a temperature between 10º and 20º, according to experts.

One of the reasons bananas turn black is because of ethylene production. The banana is a climacteric fruit, since the gas that these fruits release is in large quantities, and they continue to release it even after they are removed from the plants or trees.

When a banana has spots it is safe to eat as long as it does not have fungus or mold, since mold is a fungus that is harmful to health.

  • Store them at room temperature: experts recommend keeping them at room temperature because they are tropical fruits. However, if it is a closed kitchen without optimal ventilation, you can store them in the refrigerator. It can also be stored in a paper bag and placed in the least cold part of the refrigerator, to prevent them from ripening too quickly.
  • Avoid sun and drafts: to preserve them for longer, avoid leaving them in the sun or in a place where there is a draft, because these two factors influence rapid maturation.
  • Use transparent film: it is a very popular trick due to its effectiveness. You just have to wrap the tip of the banana with plastic wrap or aluminum to slow down the ripening process.
  • Another option that food storage expert Amy Cozz recommends is to cut all your bananas into three parts, that is, three parts for each banana you have; Then place them cut in a glass container that has an airtight lid and close them very well. Then it is placed in the refrigerator, trying to keep its temperature at 12 degrees Celsius, in order to preserve the banana.
