Boxer Ryan García is in the middle of one of the almost countless controversies in which he has been involved after this Wednesday he was accused of using an illicit substance before and after his victory in a judges’ decision against Devin Haney.
An initial report by boxing journalist Dan Rafael that was later confirmed by ESPN reported that García tested positive for Ostarine both on Friday, April 19, in the lead-up, and on Saturday, April 20, on the day of the fight against Haney.
The information ensures that everything arose directly from a report from the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association to which ESPN had access, so the boxer now faces a sanction of several months or years.
Ostarine serves as a selective androgen receptor modulator that is often used for conditions such as muscle wasting and osteoporosis.
Likewise, it was reported that García also tested positive for 19-norandrosterone in the second test, which serves to stimulate appetite, increase the production of red blood cells and facilitates muscle growth, which is why its use in sports is prohibited by the Agency. Anti-Doping World Cup. However, King Ry’s use of said substance is not confirmed.
With the accusations, García will now have 10 days to appeal the report and undergo new tests that rule out or confirm doping.
When the news broke, Ryan García himself expressed himself through the social network getting involved in a series of tweets and messages regarding the controversy.
We will have to wait for García to decide how to proceed with the accusation and also for the main boxing entities to speak out to have more information about the sanction.
