Waukesha.- Despite it being Wednesday, Jim Mason did not go to work. He asked his boss for the day off to see his idol, the former president of the United States and Republican candidate Donald Trump, who campaigned today in Wisconsin, a key state to define the winner of the next elections on December 5. November.

“The way Trump is being treated in court is illegal. They can’t win it at the polls and they do this,” this 60-year-old man told EFE at the doors of the Waukesha convention center, on the outskirts of Milwaukee, where hundreds of people were queuing early in the morning to get a seat.

The day was special: Trump undertook a whirlwind visit to the Midwest of the country, taking advantage of the break in his trial in New York for allegedly falsifying business records to buy the silence of porn actress Stormy Daniels in the 2016 election campaign, which took him then to the presidency.

Since the trial began on April 15, the New York magnate has complained again and again that the judicial process keeps him away from the campaign and he cannot compete on equal terms with his rival, Democratic President Joe Biden.

Mason agrees with the Republican: “It’s ridiculous that they have him in court and don’t let him campaign. That only makes people like me support him even more.”

With a t-shirt in which Trump appears emerging from the fire, this man assures that what he likes about the former president is not his personality but that when he governed he had “good results”, something confirmed by the latest Marquette University survey, which puts to the Republican in assessment of the management of the economy.

In addition to the red cap with the slogan ‘Make America Great Again’, one of the most popular items of clothing among rally attendees is the t-shirt with Trump’s mugshot.

It was worn by Brian, 19, who attended the event with his friends Charlie and Ian, the latter wearing a cap that emulates the former president’s characteristic hairstyle.

These three young people were convinced that the Biden Administration wants to “silence” Trump so that he cannot return to the White House.

And even though they were born and raised in Wisconsin, a state bordering Canada, they want the Republican to return to power to put “control” on the border with Mexico given that now “many illegal migrants and fentanyl are coming in,” they stated.

A candidate charged four times

The Republican not only became the first former president of the United States to sit in the dock, but also faces three other criminal cases that are still pending trial.

He is charged in a federal court in Washington for trying to reverse the elections he lost in 2020 against Biden and for having instigated the assault on the Capitol, in a court in Miami for illegally retaining classified documents, and in a state court in Georgia for electoral interference.

But his turbulent judicial path has not taken its toll on him in the polls. According to the latest polls, he slightly leads the race in several states that, like Wisconsin, will be key to defining the next occupant of the White House.

“I was accused of nothing, I didn’t do anything wrong. Then they accused me again, and again and again (…) But the polls are going better than ever,” he mocked this Wednesday before a dedicated audience that he motivated to mobilize against Biden due to the fear that the president “will unleash chaos.” in our economy.”

The former president denounces without evidence that he is the victim of a witch hunt orchestrated by Biden and the Department of Justice, something that is fully supported by Suzie Neitzke, a resident of the area who attended today’s rally with a message on her t-shirt that does not leave no doubt: “Yes, I am a Trump supporter.”

“They will declare him innocent because he is innocent,” said the woman with conviction, who maintained that Trump has been judicially persecuted “from day one” when he launched his campaign to return to the presidency.

According to Neitzke, food and gasoline prices are “atronomic” because of Biden, but everything will be fixed thanks to Trump because he knows how to manage the country as if it were a company: “He is a businessman, not a politician.” ”.
