A Costco customer successfully returned thousands of dollars worth of products to the store. Her returns over three years totaled $44,000, leaving the store’s other customers in disbelief.
On an all-Costco Reddit forum, customers were talking about the absurd returns the store has accepted.
And they just discovered that a large number of returns were made to the Costco jewelry department.
And a Reddit user shared on the forum how a woman returned three pieces of jewelry to the store, which in total were worth $11,000 dollars just for those three.
However, the woman had been returning the pieces little by little for years.
“In the last three years, she spent a total of $54,000 and returned $44,000,” the user said.
Flexible return policy
While Costco is known for its flexible return policy, the store does not allow all returns to pass without consequences.
Therefore, after reimbursing the woman for much of her jewelry purchases, Costco prohibited her from making jewelry returns, according to The Sun US.
Likewise, Reddit users questioned whether the store would authenticate the jewelry before refunding your money.
“I hope they check the stones,” said one user, while another confirmed that they always check them before accepting the return.
A Costco employee noted on the forum that the refund of funds is put on hold so that jewelry can be sent to be effectively authenticated.
This process depends on the carat size of the diamonds and the cost of the jewelry.
The employee said shift managers and diamond testers in the membership department may also inspect jewelry before refunding a customer.
It’s not uncommon for customers to take advantage of Costco’s flexible returns policy.
As an example, there is the case of a customer who successfully returned a used gym membership.
The store refunded him $400 for the two-year fitness membership that was two months away from expiring.
