Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will not face sexual assault charges by Dallas police.
A police spokesman said detectives determined there was insufficient evidence that a crime had been committed.
The case arose from an alleged incident in 2017 in which a woman accused Dak Prescott of assaulting her in the back of a pickup truck in a club parking lot.
In March, Prescott filed a lawsuit seeking more than $1 million in monetary damages after receiving a letter in January from attorneys Bethel and Yoel Zehaie on behalf of the woman stating that they would “waive pursuing criminal charges in addition to disclosing this information.” to the public, in exchange for compensating her for the mental anguish she has suffered – the damages [de la mujer] They are valued at the sum of $100,000,000.”
The woman filed a countersuit and criminal charges after Prescott’s initial filing.
“I want to thank the Dallas Police Department and the Dallas County District Attorney’s office for their thorough investigation into the allegations against Dak Prescott,” said attorney Levi McCathern. “As we knew they would, they found nothing in their extensive exploration of the facts that would support a criminal prosecution. We are confident that at the end of the authorities’ investigation into the extortion case they will find the accuser and her lawyers as guilty as Dak is innocent.”
“As I’ve said from the beginning, Dak is a great football player and an even better human being. He would never assault any woman. These false accusations arose seven years after the alleged events for one reason and one reason only: to line the pockets of the accuser and her lawyers. “His behavior is an affront to all true survivors of sexual assault.”
Yoel Zehaie issued a statement in response to police not pressing charges, noting that unfortunately “it takes a while for victims to come out and that makes it very difficult to prosecute these cases.”
Last month, the woman’s lawsuit was dismissed in Dallas County and moved to Collin County because Prescott’s initial lawsuit for damages was filed in that county.
