The technical director of Rayados de Monterrey in Liga MX, Fernando Ortiz, was quite disappointed by the 3-1 defeat they suffered this Wednesday against the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer (MLS) in the semifinal of the Concacaf Champions Cup; He also took responsibility for the defeat and recognized the efforts of all the members of the squad to try to achieve victory.

This result marks an unfortunate event for the positive season that Rayados de Monterrey has recorded within the Clausura 2024 tournament of the MX League; Despite this, he stated during the post-match press conference that it is much more painful because he was responsible for these events.

“The fans behaved up to the mark, they never stopped encouraging the players, we are ashamed of not taking the step to the Final, I am responsible, especially when the team loses, if there is someone to blame for the defeat, it is me,” said the Tano Ortiz.

The strategist also highlighted that they always sought to have the series in their favor although this Wednesday’s bulky result ended up affecting their aspirations of being able to play the final against the Tuzos del Pachuca and took the opportunity to congratulate the Major League Soccer team for this achievement to be able to keep alive their aspirations of becoming champion of the Champions Cup.

“I want to congratulate Columbus, a worthy rival, better than us, we have to accept it, emotionally it hits, it is something that is difficult to avoid, I told the players, whatever has to hurt, tomorrow we will think about Tigres, our rival in Rooms. I think the team tried to reverse the situation during the 95 minutes,” concluded the strategist.

Despite not being able to qualify for the final of the international tournament, they still managed to get one of the places for the 2025 Club World Cup, where they hope to perform better.
