Brittney Griner, the American basketball player who was detained in Russia, recounted the harsh conditions she faced from February to December 2022, after being arrested for possession of illegal substances.

Griner described the presence of “spider nests” and blood stains in his cell. He also admitted to having left hashish oil cartridges in his luggage, calling it a “serious mistake.”

And he explained: “The mattress had a huge blood stain and they give you very thin sheets, so you are practically lying on some bars.”

The American also indicated that she decided to cut her hair because her dreadlocks were freezing.

And he also reported: “It was something that had to happen. We had spiders on top of my bed making nests. My dreadlocks started to freeze and stay wet and cold, making me sick.”

“You have to do what you have to do to survive,” he added.

The Phoenix Mercury player in the American WNBA also reported that she was given expired toothpaste and that it was used to remove black mold from the walls.

Griner explained that his wife, Cherelle Griner, was usually in charge of packing his suitcase when he had to travel, but for some reason on the morning of his trip to Russia that did not happen.

It was Griner herself who packed her things and completely forgot that she had hashish vaping cartridges in her suitcase. The American knew that it was prohibited to carry drugs in Russia.

“I said ‘how could I make this mistake? “I could see all the things he had worked so hard for falling apart and disappearing,” she said.
