Alexa Wingerter, a Louisiana teacher, had sex with at least one 18-year-old student, sent sexual messages to her students and bought alcohol from others, authorities said.
Last March, the Slidell Police Department received complaints that Wingerter, 35, was having “inappropriate relationships” and “sending inappropriate photographs and messages” to his male students at Slidell High School.
In an investigation, authorities “found sufficient evidence to support that Wingerter was involved in an inappropriate sexual relationship with at least one 18-year-old student, while acting in her capacity as the student’s educator,” Slidell police wrote in a news release. Tuesday, according to Fox News.
They added: “Evidence was also found that Wingerter was purchasing alcohol for his students at local bars in Slidell.”
Ongoing investigation
The teacher was charged with prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a student, as well as illegal purchase of alcoholic beverages on behalf of a person under 21 years of age.
Wingerter was booked into the Tammany Parish Detention Center last Thursday and released the same day after posting $3,500 bail, according to jail records reviewed by Fox News.
However, the investigation remains ongoing and additional victims have been asked to come forward.
After the news broke, the teacher was fired from the institution.
“The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority,” district Superintendent Frank Jabbia said in a message to parents obtained by Fox News.
They added: “Any allegations of inappropriate behavior are taken very seriously and reported directly to law enforcement officials… We have strict policies in place to ensure that any behavior that compromises the safety of our students is not tolerated. “We will continue to prioritize the safety of our students above all else.”
