A fire broke out yesterday in a supermarket in Brooklyn (NYC), leaving 7 injured and about 30 people homeless and causing huge columns of smoke into the sky.
The fire started around 6 p.m. at Christa’s Kitchen & Market near the corner of Cooper Street and Bushwick Avenue in Bushwick, according to the city’s fire department (FDNY). At least 250 troops were needed to control the fire, reported New YorkPost.

“This fire affected this community, not only the supermarket they use but the residents of four buildings,” FDNY First Deputy Commissioner Joseph Pfeifer told reporters yesterday at the scene.
Even though the first firefighters arrived three minutes after the 911 call, the old and attached buildings made of wooden structures collapsed like a matchstick.
Red Cross staff also responded and assisted the 30 residents left homeless by the fire and smoke.
A displaced resident who identified himself as Mark was left speechless as the inferno ripped through his home. He said that about 15 people live in his apartment building. “My house is on fire… What do you want me to tell you?”
It was not immediately clear what may have caused the fire, but at least two dozen people were left homeless. An investigation is ongoing.
