Ángel Di María, who returned to Benfica last summer, is having an excellent football moment in Portugal. He currently has 16 goals and 15 assists in 46 games with the Portuguese club.
The Argentine, who has just turned 36, has a contract until the end of the season with Benfica. However, and according to the most recent report, Di María would not be planning to renew with the Portuguese team and would be looking to leave European football.
The information was revealed by journalist Leonardo Paradizo from TN. The report indicates that Di María would be negotiating a possible arrival at Inter Miami of the MLS, Lionel Messi’s current team with whom he maintains an excellent friendship due to his years in the Argentine national team.
Di María’s options
According to the Argentine journalist’s report, the 36-year-old footballer would have three options to continue his career after finishing the season. The first would be to continue in Benfica, since the Portuguese team is very interested in renewing him, although apparently the player does not want to continue in Europe.
The second alternative, and so far the one that sounds most possible, is to go to North American soccer and share a team with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami. Who has also been his teammate in the National Team for 15 years.
Finally, Paradizo also refers to a possible offer from Saudi Arabia. The latter is a little further away and not very striking for the Argentine striker.
Rules out returning to Rosario Central, for now
Ángel Di María got his start in football in Rosario Central, his hometown team, and he has always made it clear that he wants to return to the Rosario club one day. Even a couple of months ago some reports reported that “El Fideo” would have everything ready to play with the “Canalla” team after finishing his contract at Benfica.
However, strong threats to him and his family from criminal gangs in Rosario would have stopped Di María’s interest in returning to his hometown. “Tell your son Ángel not to return to Rosario again because otherwise we will ruin him by killing a family member. We don’t throw away pieces of paper. “We throw away lead and dead people,” said the note they left at the home of Ángel’s relatives.
For now there is nothing concrete about Ángel Di María’s next step in football. The Argentine will seek to finish the excellent season with Benfica in a good way, which is in second place, five points behind the leader and with three dates left to finish the tournament.
