A Maryland woman made the decision not to exercise, resulting in her winning a grand prize of $30,000 on a lottery ticket, state lottery officials said.
Michelle Simms had planned to work out on Saturday, April 27, but some friends convinced her to go out with them instead.
While with his friends at a pizzeria and bar in the city of Nottingham, Simms decided to buy some lottery tickets, including two scratch-off tickets for the game called ‘Loteria’, from a vending machine.
When he went to scan the tickets instead of scratching them first, he received a message he had never seen before.
“The message popped up and it said, ‘Congratulations, you won $30,000,’” Simms told lottery officials.
“I said out loud, ‘No, I didn’t win.’”
The woman scanned the ticket about nine more times just to be sure, then called her mom.
“She came right away and took my ticket. She wanted to confirm it and keep it safe for me,” Simms said.
The lucky winner continued celebrating with her friends and then collected her $30,000 prize a few days later.
Simms plans to spend some of the money from his new fortune on a vacation.
