On July 20 at the AT&T Stadium in Texas, the legendary boxer Mike Tyson will face the controversial YouTuber Jake Paul. In a fight that will be at the professional level and that will bring the former world champion out of retirement after almost 20 years.
One of the things that seems highly worrying in this fight is the issue of the age difference between boxers. Well, there will be 31 years difference between the two when they step into the Arlington ring.
Tyson will be 58 years old on the day of the fight and for some there is even concern about his health. Well, due to his advanced age, it could get complicated if he pushes himself too hard in the ring.
Ben Shalom, boxing promoter, recently stated in a talk for talkSPORT that it is almost unnecessary for Tyson at his age to enter a boxing fight of this caliber. “Having a 58-year-old person in a professional boxing match is not professional and that is where we have to put the limit on these fights,” he said.
“It’s fine for entertainment, but for me, it’s a big step too far (doing professional combat), it’s a circus act, you can’t do anything more ridiculous,” the promoter concluded.
“I think it’s dangerous, and the idea of a YouTube boxer beating Mike Tyson is not pleasant to me. He could have that in his history and it is not pleasant as a boxing fan because we see Mike Tyson as a legend.”
Tyson’s advanced age and arduous training prior to the fight could cause complications in the ring. Some experts even claim that he could suffer a stroke if he is hit hard on the head.
Tyson will have to undergo extra tests before fighting
There are several risks that exist for a 58-year-old person to fight under these circumstances. That is why Tyson must undergo extra tests required by the state of Texas before entering the ring on June 20.
These regulations seek the safety of the fight. That is why Tyson must undergo these tests to evaluate aspects such as brain function, heart health or if he suffers from any pre-existing condition that could put his health at risk during the fight.
