The Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull) has once again demonstrated his dominance by taking pole position in qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix sprint race.
Verstappen, who had already shown his potential in free practice, saved his best cards for the final round of qualifying. With a time of 1 minute, 27 seconds and 641 thousandths, the triple world champion surpassed the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) by 108 thousandths and surpassed the Mexican Sergio Pérez (Red Bull), third, by 235 thousandths.
The Spanish Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) finished fifth, while Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) finished eighth.
Despite failing to stand out in the first two rounds of qualifying, Verstappen showed his talent in the final round, confirming his position as world championship leader and favorite for the sprint race.
The sprint race will be held this Saturday and will distribute points for the final classification of the Miami Grand Prix.
Verstappen is emerging as the big favorite for the race, but we cannot rule out surprises, since this urban circuit usually brings unexpected results.
