Aaron Judge, captain of the New York Yankee, was ejected for the first time in his career in this Saturday’s duel against the Detroit Tigers.
Judge was removed from the game when he disputed a third strike called by umpire Ryan Blakney in the seventh inning.
The inning already had one out when it came to Judge’s turn, who saw a full-count fastball from Tyler Holton that he thought was slightly out. Blakney called the strike, the outfielder looked back and was ejected.
After beginning to walk toward the dugout, Judge returned to discuss the call and manager Aaron Boone continued the arguments.
It was the fourth expulsion of the season for the Yankees and the first for a player since Anthony Rizzo was thrown out on September 7 of last year by Alan Porter for an argument from the dugout.
Judge had a single and an RBI double in his first two at-bats. On the season he is hitting .209 and ended an 0-for-14 slide with a single to start a ninth-inning rally for New York’s victory on Friday.
After Judge was ejected, many in the fans began chanting expletives against Blakney.
