Many of us grew up without the necessary tools to navigate the onslaught of the emotional storm that is experienced, especially; because for many years the topic of mental health was a taboo topic in millions of homes in Latin America.
The good news is that, since then, the world has changed and today’s children and young people can live with hope in the midst of the storm. In a time when mental disorders threaten from an early age and suicide becomes a sad reality, it is vital to extend a firm hand to our young people.
In this context, youth leadership based on emotional intelligence takes flight like a kite with the wind in its favor, and the “Flight of the Kite” program, created by the Ismael Cala Foundation, is an inspiring example of this transformative vision. .
In fact, I write this column from Manizales (Colombia), a city that welcomes me this time for a very special activity of the foundation that I have the honor of presiding over.
The program seeks to have a presence in eight countries, and train 88 thousand young people in school between 12 and 17 years old, with tools for emotional recognition and management as well as the promotion of basic and advanced leadership skills.
Although the project has successfully expanded throughout Guatemala, Nicaragua, Colombia and more recently Venezuela, we want to continue growing not only in these countries where the work has been implemented, but also to have the capacity to reach other latitudes in our hemisphere.
Through strategic alliances with different foundations that work for the well-being of children and adolescents in different countries on our continent, we seek to generate a lasting impact in the communities where we operate, and you can be an agent of change by becoming an ambassador of the Ismael Cala Foundation, thanks to a small contribution.
Each child and adolescent who participates in The Flight of the Kite becomes an agent of change, sowing the seed of a brighter and more hopeful future for all. It is through initiatives like this that we can build a world where emotional intelligence and youth leadership are the norm, not the exception.
If we are committed to the good development of our children and young people, we are ensuring a better tomorrow, since they will be the ones who will take the lead.
We are counting on you!
