Bayern Munich is still looking for a coach after Ralf Rangnick’s refusal to take the position. According to the newspaper “Bild”, the club’s sporting director, Max Eberl, is studying the possibility of Spaniard Julen Lopetegui being Thomas Tuchel’s successor for next season.
Lopetegui, 57, has been without a team since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2023. In his long career, Lopetegui has coached the Spanish national team, Real Madrid, Sevilla and other teams.
Other candidates that Eberl is considering are Roger Schmidt, coach of Benfica, and Erik ten Hag, coach of Manchester United.
Bayern have also contacted Lopetegui to gauge his willingness to coach the German team, according to Sky.
The search for a new coach has intensified after Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann and Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso also rejected Bayern’s offer.
Tuchel will leave the club at the end of this season. However, this Friday he seemed open to reconsidering his decision when asked about it.
Bayern are at a crossroads and need to find a high-level coach who can maintain the club’s success for years to come.
Lopetegui, Schmidt and ten Hag are all experienced coaches with great track records, so any of them would be a good option for Bayern.
However, the final decision will depend on the demands of the club and the aspirations of the coaches themselves.
