A Wisconsin teacher faces accusations of sexually abusing an 11-year-old student.

Madison Bergmann, 24, is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with the minor, according to a criminal complaint in St. Croix County.

The CBS report on the case this Thursday indicates that a charge of sexual assault against a minor under 13 years of age was filed against Bergmann.

Charging documents indicate that officers responded to River Crest Elementary School in Hudson to respond to a report of inappropriate conduct between a teacher and a fifth-grade student.

Officers were provided screenshots of multiple text messages of conversations between the victim and Bergmann in which they discussed their classroom encounters during lunch or after school hours.

The victim’s mother checked the minor’s phone after she saw him talking to Bergmann.

The boy confessed to authorities that he spoke with Bergmann almost daily, and that he obtained his phone after he went skiing with his mother and teacher in Afton Alps for winter break. Bergmann alleged that he received the number at that time in case they got separated in the park.

By that date, the teacher had become engaged to her boyfriend.

Inside the woman’s backpack, uniformed officers found a folder with the victim’s name that also contained handwritten notes. The young man told the police that during the day the two exchanged messages. In the papers, they talked about kisses between the two.

The woman would have told the minor that she enjoyed when he touched her and when they kissed.

“One of my cousins is in fifth grade and I can’t imagine a man talking to her the way we talk. “I know that we have a special relationship and I love you more than anyone in the world, but I have to be an adult here and stop,” reads one of the woman’s messages.

In a message to parents, the school’s principal, Kimberly Osterhues, said the school community is surprised and disturbed by the allegations.

“Our primary concern is for the River Crest School community and the children impacted,” Osterhues shared.

Bergmann was released on personal recognizance. You should not go near school property or campus events. The woman is on administrative leave.

He must appear in court on May 30 for a hearing in the case.
