Oscar de la Hoya has been the center of attention this week, even eclipsing the protagonists of the fight, Canelo Álvarez and Jaime Munguía. His actions have generated controversy and have added spice to the fight for the WBC and WBA super middleweight titles.
It all started with a clash with Canelo at the pre-fight press conference, where De La Hoya accused him of mistreatment and insulted him.
Then, he wore a t-shirt with the legend “Eat more meat,” an apparent mockery of Canelo’s nickname.
To top it off, he posted a video on his social networks where he dances to the song “I’m Blessed” by Ryan García, Canelo’s rival, while a woman washes her car.
These provocations have generated a stir in the boxing world, with some criticizing De La Hoya for his behavior and others applauding his attitude.
Even Conor McGregor, former UFC champion, proposed to De La Hoya a bare-knuckle fight against Canelo.
Without a doubt, De la Hoya’s actions have been an additional ingredient to the fight between Canelo and Munguía, which already promised to be a great spectacle.
It remains to be seen whether De La Hoya will continue his controversial attitude or stay on the sidelines in the future.
What is certain is that he has managed to capture the attention of the public and has generated a great stir in the world of boxing.
