A couple of days ago the information came to light that Ryan García had tested positive for doping before and after his fight against Devin Haney. The young boxer of Mexican descent flatly denied that he had ingested any illegal substance.

On the other hand, his rival that night, Devin Haney, also commented on the matter and stated that García disrespected the fans and the sport after allegedly ingesting illicit substances before their fight.

Recently several former boxers have expressed their opinions regarding this case and they have all agreed that Ryan García did something extremely serious and illegitimate.

One of the first to speak was Paul “Paulie” Malignaggi. Former Italian-American boxer who recently commented on the program ProBox TV’s ‘Deep Waters’ who believes that García cheated in the fight against Haney.

“I’m going to say it openly: I think Ryan Garcia cheated, bro. “I think you took steroids and you knew it,” said the former boxer who had a 16-year career and is currently a fight commentator for BYB.

Another who also gave a similar opinion during the program was former boxer Chris Algieri. “With a bad loss to Haney, Ryan would have been relegated to YouTube fights, essentially. He now gets the win and becomes the face of the sport, with a legitimate chance of becoming the overall face of boxing in the coming months or years. And then this comes out. Boxing never misses a chance to end up with black eyes, a broken nose and a broken jaw. “This guy was getting a lot of attention,” he said.

Finally, another former ring champion like Shawn Porter offered advice to Ryan García to try to fix what he did. “If you did something on purpose, admit it and try to recover, because this is a very big mark on you. You can come back as a clean fighter again,” he suggested.

For now, the World Boxing Council, the body that endorsed the Devin and García fight, has not commented on the matter. While Ryan and his promoter, Golden Boy Promotions, firmly assure that the young boxer did not ingest any illegal substances before the fight.
