The president of the United States, Joe Biden, won the Democratic primaries in Indiana this Tuesday, where he was the only candidate who appeared on the electoral ballots, while former president Donald Trump easily won the Republican version of these elections in the same state.

With 14.7% of the ballots counted, Trump won in Indiana, obtaining 76% of the vote and leaving the former United States ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, his only opponent in this state, far behind. that garnered 24% of the votes, according to projections from The New York Times and Washington Post.

Both Biden and Trump, who were already guaranteed weeks ago to be the candidates for the United States presidential elections on November 5, had secured the 79 Democratic and 58 Republican delegates, respectively.

Trump was only fighting on paper with the former South Carolina governor, even though she had already withdrawn from the race for the Republican nomination.

Only their names appeared on the Republican primary ballot, where that of Mike Pence, former vice president of the United States with Trump himself, former governor of Indiana between 2013 and 2017 and also a candidate who retired at the time from the fight for the Republican side, did not appear. .

More than 4.7 million residents spread across Indiana’s 92 counties were registered to vote this Tuesday on a day that, according to the local press, saw registered voters increase by up to 20% over the last month.

The presidential elections on November 5 will mark the first time since 1912 that a former president and a sitting president face each other. However, on that occasion it was New Jersey Governor Woodrow Wilson who finally defeated President William Howard Taft and former President Theodore Roosevelt.
