Marcelo Bielsa, coach of the Uruguay national team, sparked a new controversy by calling for the match against Costa Rica, forward Walter Domínguez, 24 years old, belonging to Institución Atlética Juventud Soriano, an amateur division club of Uruguayan football.

‘Loco’ Bielsa’s argument for making this controversial decision is based on the fact that Domínguez has scored a total of 57 goals in 39 games. In addition, he has just won the OFI (Interior Football Organization) National Team Cup with Soriano.

“All I did was play game by game and I didn’t know that I had scored so many goals (…) I wasn’t expecting the call, it was a surprise. The truth is that I am very happy,” said the young player.

The amateur player will now have the opportunity to show his country that even though he is in a lower league, he can take a step forward and climb professional positions with his talent.

Although it has not been confirmed whether Bielsa is in charge in said friendly match, everything seems to indicate, due to the way in which the decision was made, that this call is part of his occurrences, those that have given him the nickname “El Loco” .

Local players only

It is worth noting that the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) announced that it will play said friendly on May 31, with local players. For that reason, Domínguez was summoned.

What is sought in Uruguayan football is to give rise to new figures and in this way give opportunities to those talents who have not yet been able to have the opportunity to represent their country.

The Uruguayan team is also expected to play another friendly match next June 5 against Mexico in Denver, Colorado, United States.
