Fernando Gago, Chivas coach, has given details about the conversation he had with Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández after his arrival to the team as a reinforcement for Clausura 2024.

Gago, in an interview with TUDN, pointed out that he was clear with the Mexican striker from the beginning: “I told him that he was not going to play, that he was going to have his moment where he was going to have to work, that he was not going to play here because he had his name, you have to earn it.”

The Argentine coach explained that “Javier is a person who has a lot of experience,” but that “he needed time to adapt to the team and Liga MX.”

“I told him that it was going to be important in the group, that it generates that good tension so that the players are at a very high level of training, of match concentration,” Gago added.

Gago also mentioned that the knee injury that Chicharito had in 2022 has made it difficult for him to return to one hundred percent: “It has happened to me that you need those two preseasons, to let go of your physique, rest, he is making good progress, but he lacks rhythm that He is going to have to win it by playing or training, it is becoming more and more loose and that is important too.”

Chicharito has had little participation in Clausura 2024, with only six games played and one goal scored. However, Gago trusts that the Mexican forward can recover his level little by little: “He comes from a long injury and every footballer needs time.”

Gago’s words make it clear that ‘Chicharito’ will have to earn his place in Chivas through work and effort.
