An Idaho man was sentenced to 30 years in prison as the minimum sentence after being found guilty of attempting to transmit HIV through sexual relations with men and teenage boys, Ada County prosecutors said.

The reports stated that the investigation of Alexander Louie, 34, began in 2023 as a child pornography case after he allegedly initiated an online sexual conversation with a 15-year-old teenager, but in reality it was an undercover detective from the Ada County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities discovered that Louie was not taking his medications and was having intentional sexual contact with men and teenagers in hopes of transmitting HIV to them, as it was determined that he carried the disease. It was also determined that he arranged to meet the person he believed to be a juvenile for sexual intercourse, but he was arrested.

In Louie’s confessions, the subject admitted that he had sexual relations with between 30 and 50 different men and boys, including a minor under 16 years old. The 30-year prison sentence was handed down Friday by Ada County District Judge Derrick O’Neill.

Last Friday, Ada County District Judge Derrick O’Neill sentenced Louie to 30 years in prison, 16 of which must be served before he is eligible for parole.

“This defendant’s repeated heinous crimes negatively impacted many people in our community,” added Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts. “I want to thank the Ada County Sheriff’s Detective and my trial team. “His hard work on this case ensured that Mr. Louie was brought to justice to protect our community from his predatory and dangerous conduct.”
