Thomas Barnaby was arrested on suspicion of repeatedly raping a 12-year-old girl over a five-day period inside a building in The Bronx (NYC).
Barnaby was arrested by law enforcement officers Wednesday afternoon on Jerome Ave. near E. 196th St., just hours after police released his name and photo and asked the public for help locating him, he said. DailyNews.
The 30-year-old suspect was charged with rape, predatory sexual assault against a minor, sexual abuse, forcible touching and acting in a manner harmful to a minor.
Police said the victim was raped multiple times between Dec. 19 and Dec. 23 at a building near E. 165th St. and River Ave., just north of Yankee Stadium. The girl is related to the suspect, but police did not specify the link between the two.
Barnaby, whose last known address is in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, has six prior arrests, including fare evasion on public transportation, possession of stolen property and assault, police said.
All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
According to the NYPD, most rapes remain unreported. This month a 71-year-old pastor was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a fifteen-year-old girl in the basement of a church in Long Island (NY).
Also this month, four people – three of them Hispanic – were accused of trafficking a 14-year-old teenager and forcing her into prostitution, the Manhattan (NYC) district attorney’s office announced.
In late April, an undercover operation led to the arrest of a young New York City school traffic guard on suspicion of seducing a 14-year-old girl into sexual relations.
In February, a man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually abusing a minor relative on Long Island (NY).
In January NYPD Officer Angad Beharry and Gisianet Christina Chirinos Viloria were arrested and charged on suspicion of sexual exploitation of a 9-year-old girl. Also that month, an older man from Westchester County (NY) was indicted on federal charges of sexual exploitation of minors using the Snapchat app.
In December, a former worker at a state residential facility for teenage girls on Long Island (NY) admitted to raping one of them several times after giving her marijuana edibles.
In another similar case, in October four members of a Hispanic family living in Queens (NYC) were found guilty in Brooklyn of running a years-long prostitution operation involving minors brought from Mexico and of bribing a police officer. One of the victims is the niece of the group’s leader.
In August, an employee of the NYC Department of Education (DOE) was arrested and accused of abusing a fifteen-year-old girl in Queens. In September, Jesús Concepción, a former music teacher at a charter high school in The Bronx (NYC), admitted to having sexually abused five students, one of whom was only 12 years old.
In April 2023, José Carabantes Pineda was sentenced to 23 years in prison after pleading guilty to tying up and sexually assaulting a girl in a commercial parking lot in Long Island (NY).

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) has warned since 2020 about an increase in cases of child pornography due to the increased time spent online by adults and children using social networks.
