On May 18, the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia by split decision. Usyk stripped Fury of his World Boxing Council belt and became the undisputed heavyweight champion.
Before agreeing to the fight between both boxers, the contract stipulated a revenge clause. Which Fury would apparently activate to fight Usyk again, according to the British boxer’s co-promoter, Frank Warren.
Warren revealed to Box Nation that Fury contacted him in the last few hours to tell Usyk’s team that he wants to get back in the ring with the Ukrainian and the date would be this October. The British man will seek to recover his belt and keep three others.
“I told him to think about it before doing it, but he wants it and he wants it with all his might. It was a fight of two halves. I thought I was way ahead until the seventh round. At the end of the seventh round, Fury hurt him a couple of times,” Warren explained.
Regarding the result, Warren also commented that it was a very close fight and that both he and Fury thought they had won. Which is why the British man wants a quick rematch so much.
“I thought Tyson did enough to win. “It was the biggest heavyweight fight of this century,” Warren concluded.
Usyk willing to give him revenge
As for the other party involved, Usyk’s entourage seems to have no problem accepting the rematch with Fury, even just a couple of days later he commented that he is willing to get back into the ring with the Briton.
“We are men of our word. It’s not about paperwork: if we shake hands and promise something, we do it. “I don’t see any reason why the rematch shouldn’t happen,” said Alex Krassyuk, Usyk’s promoter for Boxing King Media.
