Pennsylvania authorities identified the brothers Leovanny and Giguenson Peña Peña, originally from the Dominican Republic, as the fatal victims of a shooting that broke out after an argument over a co-worker at the bedding company where they worked.
The incident also left three other people injured, one of whom is in serious condition, and the other two are stable, Chester police said.
The incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, May 22 at Delaware County Linen, a company that produces bedding.
The gunman is Hispanic
“Two people who, unfortunately, lost their lives simply by showing up at work,” Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer told the media.
Wilbert Rosado Ruiz, 61, was arrested as the alleged suspect of shooting at the workers, who was also an employee of the place.
The accident is under investigation and at the moment, the police do not know the reasons that led him to shoot his companions. Employees told WPVI television that Ruiz was known to be a troublemaker.
The shooting began with an argument
Initially, workers thought the sound of gunshots was an explosion, due to the chemicals used in the company. But the screams of the employees warned of the danger, the prosecutor said.
Eric Spencer, an employee at the company, told WPVI that it all started as an argument between several of his co-workers, including the gunman.
The worker assured that the discussion was in Spanish and he left the place because he does not understand the language. Spencer said that the shooter began shooting his companions at point-blank range.
Officers arrested him as he fled.
After opening fire, the suspect attempted to escape in a black Scion vehicle. Trainor police officers saw his car and arrested him. The man did not try to get the gun away from him, authorities said.
Wilbert Rosado Ruiz was charged with two counts of murder, multiple counts of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and one count of firearms.
“This was a cold-blooded shooting,” prosecutor Stollsteimer said during the conference. “This is an ongoing investigation. As more information comes to light, that story will become clearer to us.”
