At least three women, including a 72-year-old woman, have joined in recent days the series of victims of “random” beatings in the streets and subway of New York and in some cases the suspects are still at large.
Police yesterday released the photo of a man who is being sought for allegedly separately attacking two women last week inside the Brooklyn Subway. The first case occurred at the Atlantic Ave. station at 6:50 a.m. on May 16, when the attacker approached and slapped a 49-year-old woman who had just entered the mezzanine of the stop.
The victim was wearing headphones and did not notice the man until he hit her on the side of the head. The woman fell to the ground from the impact, suffering a small cut to her ear due to it being torn off during the attack. The suspect ran away without saying a word, according to the complaint.
About 28 hours later, mid-morning on May 17, the man attacked again, this time at the Halsey St. L subway stop near Wyckoff St. in Brownsville, police said. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should call 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) and in Spanish 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Also through the website crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or by text message to 274637 (CRIMES), followed by TIP577. All communications are strictly confidential.
NYPD also announced Thursday the arrest of Mouhamed Diallo, a homeless man who was accused of hitting a 72-year-old woman in the back of the head while she was walking in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, leaving her bleeding and with swelling on her head.
The victim was at 96th St. and Fourth Ave. at 4:50 p.m. on May 5 when they approached her from behind and punched her, causing her to fall to the ground, police said. The attacker ran west along 97th Street. She was transported by paramedics to Maimónides Hospital in stable condition, she reported. DailyNews.
All charges are mere accusations and those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
A 60-year-old Hispanic woman was also recently beaten and robbed by 5 men upon arriving at her new building in Rockaway Beach (Queens), where she moved from Brooklyn.
In another similar case, last month a 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of pushing a woman down the stairs and then robbing her as she entered his church for a Sunday mass in Queens (NYC). He took her car and purse containing $300, her cell phone and credit cards.
Not only women are victims. “Random” violence is constant in New York, mostly in streets, parks, buses and the Subway. Residents, tourists and even celebrities have been recent victims of attacks, including actors Steve Buscemi, Michael Stuhlbarg and John Cardoza.
Also this month a 79-year-old man was kicked in the face during a random violent street attack in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Brooklyn.
