The historic footballer of the Cruz Azul Machine, Gerardo Torrado, decided to talk about the great moment that the cement team is going through under the direction of Martín Anselmi when playing in the final of the Clausura 2024 tournament of the MX League and also with the possibility of becoming champion of Aztec football to once again lift the trophy as the monarchs of this competition.
Through an interview offered to Mediotiempo, the former sky blue captain who just lost the 2013 final against Club América at the Azteca Stadium highlighted the great work that the coach has done to encourage the entire squad to have an impressive performance in the playing field that was reflected throughout the Clausura 2024 tournament.
“I didn’t have much knowledge of his way of directing and his idea of the game. This season I followed Cruz Azul much more closely, in fact I was posting on my social networks about it, and from the first game I saw the team play, their intensity caught my attention, with and without the ball, especially that momentum. of being the protagonist for a large part of the game and going to press in the opponent’s field, leaving a lot of space behind the defense, which many times in your first season and without having great knowledge of the panel you have, doing so is brave, and to me that since A principle caught my attention, and I like it, as a proposed game model and game idea, it catches my attention a lot,” he expressed.
Gerardo Torrado also highlighted all the qualities that the team led by the Argentine has had to be able to make up for important losses such as that of Toro Fernández, who tore his cruciate ligament in the first days of the Aztec championship and were forced to change their game strategy to be able to add victories in each of the matches and then reach this grand final against América.
“It is a virtue of the coach to be able to rebuild the team and find solutions that allow you to continue being a protagonist. That is the knowledge that you are acquiring as a coach of your team, and that has moved you, in some way, in some games, in the offensive part and in the defensive part, when creating the game and when defending, I think it is a virtue that speaks of how well Anselmi sees football, along with his entire coaching staff. He is surely very well accompanied, and that allows him to have many ideas and be able to interpret them,” he explained.
“It seems to me that it is a great rivalry from a long time ago, between two great teams, with two great fans and it coincides that in recent years, they have seen each other in the Final. They are two teams that are very well managed, they have a very good squad, one larger than the other, but in the end they were the most consistent and today they are in the Final,” Torrado added.
The second leg corresponding to the grand final of the Clausura 2024 tournament of the Liga MX will take place this Sunday, May 26 at the Azteca Stadium, where Cruz Azul will have the task of achieving victory to thus take away the aspirations of the azulcrema de to be able to lift the two-time championship.
