The Copa América 2024 will be held from June 20 to July 14 in the United States with the participation of 16 teams.
Each of the participants is entitled to a financial sum and, if they become champions, they will take home the precious silver trophy.
But it was also reported that the 2024 edition of the Copa América will distribute a record $72 million in participation fees and prizes to the teams that compete in the tournament.
Each team will receive a fee of $2 million dollars just for participating, and the remaining $40 million dollars will be classified as prizes.
As if this were not enough, the champion of the continental competition will take home $16 million dollars, almost triple the $6.5 million dollars that Argentina took home in the last edition.
The tournament is being co-organized by Conmebol and Concacaf, the respective confederations of South America, North America, Central America and the Caribbean.
The United States is hosting this expanded edition of the Copa América for the second time, having hosted the Centenario in 2016. On that occasion, there was a total prize pool of $21.5 million, of which $6.5 million was for the winner, Chile.
Teams that advance only to the quarterfinals will receive $2 million. The fourth-place team will receive $4 million, the third-place team will pocket $5, while the losing finalist will receive $7.
The amount of prizes represents an important incentive for participating players, beyond the honor of playing in such a prestigious competition. This is especially true for American soccer players.
The tournament will also cover the teams’ hotel, airfare and ground transportation costs.
