Israeli forces confirmed the launch of eight rockets from Rafah, at the southern end of the Gaza Strip, towards central Israel, including Tel Aviv, in an attack that was claimed by the Islamist group Hamas, being the first in this area after about four months.
Through a statement, Israel specified that eight projectiles were identified crossing from the Rafah area into Israeli territory and several of them were intercepted. Despite the severity of the attack, the damage was minimal, most of it related to the fall of shrapnel on towns.
A woman who was slightly injured when shrapnel hit the roof of her house in Herzliya, about 13 kilometers from Tel Aviv. Paramedics from the Israeli rescue team also treated two other women, who were hit by falling shrapnel as they headed to a shelter during the attack.
A rocket fell in a field in Kfar Saba, about 19 kilometers from the Israeli capital, in another related incident. A military spokesman said last week that the Israeli military believes Hamas has a rocket arsenal in Rafah, with the capacity to reach central Israel.
The Al Qasam brigades, an armed group of Hamas, confirmed the launch of “a battery of rockets in response to the Zionist massacres against civilians.” Air raid sirens were heard in Tel Aviv and other nearby cities, followed by the Iron Dome explosions.
Emergency services reported that shrapnel has fallen in several places, in the city of Ranana, north of Tel Aviv, and also in the cities of Petah Tikva and Bnei Brak. An hour after the rocket launch, a new attack sounded alarms in communities near the Gaza Strip.
