A 61-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of shooting and wounding five people at a Los Angeles-area home. Additionally, the person also opened fire on a police helicopter during a roadblock, authorities said.

After receiving an emergency call, officers with the San Fernando Police Department responded shortly before 11:30 pm on Saturday, May 25, to 900 Orange Grove Avenue, where they reported a shooting.

He barricaded himself in his home

When officers arrived at the scene they found four gunshot victims. A fifth victim was later found at a hospital, San Fernando police determined he had driven himself, ABC 7 reported.

The suspect, who was identified as Martín Rodríguez, barricaded himself in his home on Sunday and fired at a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter that was providing air support to officers on the ground, before being arrested. No other injuries were reported.

Rodriguez was eventually apprehended with the help of officers and deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, as well as the Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena and Los Angeles police departments.

Charged with seven counts

The relationship between the suspect and the shooting victims was not known Sunday. They did not provide further information on additional details of what led up to the shooting nor did they provide a report on the conditions of the victims.

Martin Rodriguez, 61, was charged with seven counts of attempted murder, one count of criminal threats, one count of shooting at an inhabited dwelling and one count of shooting at an aircraft. He was held on $9.8 million bail.

San Fernando is a city of about 24,000 people, 25 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
