The advisor of the Red Bull team in Formula 1, Helmut Marko, came forward this Sunday to talk about the spectacular accident suffered by Sergio “Checo” Pérez in which he gave his opinion and also revealed the amount it would cost the team to replace the vehicle after the incident.
In statements to Sky Sports Germany, Marko indicated that Red Bull would have to pay between two and three million dollars to recover from the damage suffered by the RB20, due to it being completely unusable.
However, the former top category driver assured that what worries him most is that the money they will have to use for the new vehicle will influence the budget limit, which worries those around the Austrians.
“First of all, it was dangerous, and secondly, the damage is two or three million dollars. And that is a big handicap for us with the regulation of the budget limit,” Marko commented.
He later referred to Magnussen’s recklessness when he collided with Checo Pérez in an overtaking attempt, showing his indignation both with the native of Denmark and with the commissioners who did not comment on the matter, showed no interest in investigating the incident and neither did he. They imposed any sanction.
“It is another accident in which Magnussen was involved. You have to see it well in the repetitions. Thank God it ended well, but it was a very critical situation. “I was surprised at how quickly they (the officials) put the incident behind them,” he added.
The accident not only frustrated Checo Pérez by not allowing him to finish the Monaco Grand Prix, but he also ended up falling from second to fifth place in the competition for the World Drivers’ Championship.
