US News & World Report, the consumer ratings and advice site, revealed the best places to live in the US for 2024-2025. The new list ranks 150 major cities in the country based on value, desirability, job market and quality of life.
Naples, Florida, ranked first this year due to its strong job market and quality of life scores. New data considerations (including a shift from metro-based data, used in previous editions of the rankings, to city-based data) resulted in many new appearances in the top 25 places located in the Midwest and South.
“Incorporating city-based data further localizes the rankings of the best places to live, allowing those looking for a place to call home to consider factors that directly impact the livability and overall experiences associated with a given place,” said Erika Giovanetti, loan expert and reporter for US News & World Report.
Boise, Idaho, was ranked No. 2 for the strength of its value, labor market and quality of life scores, and Colorado Springs, Colorado, was ranked No. 3 for its high desirability and value scores. Additionally, the Carolinas earned three of the top 10 spots due to their strong job market and quality of life scores.
Greenville, South Carolina, debuted in the top 10 at No. 4, Charlotte, North Carolina, ranked No. 5, and Raleigh, North Carolina, ranked No. 6.
This year, US News also adjusted its scoring weights to take into account stronger considerations about a city’s value and job market.
“Growing concerns about career prospects, housing affordability and the rising cost of goods and services are reflected in this year’s rankings,” Giovanetti said. “While quality of life remains the top priority for many Americans, the value of a city and the job market are increasingly important to those looking for a place to live.”
