Al-Nassr forward in the Saudi Pro League, Cristiano Ronaldo, made history this Monday during his team’s 4-2 victory over Al-Ittihad by scoring a double with which he achieved the record for most goals during a single season in said local championship.
Cristiano was the great figure of the match with his two goals that pushed Al-Nassr to a victory that seemed simple but became complicated in the last minutes, now without the Portuguese on the field, with two goals from Al-Ittihad in the 88th minute and 92′, which partially put the match at 3-2.
The attacker, who was recently confirmed as part of the Portugal team that will compete in the German Euro 2024, scored the first of his goals on the brink of halftime, when he took advantage of a long pass from Mohammed Al Fatil at speed to finish in front of the rival goalkeeper.
Already in the second half, at 69, Ronaldo set the new record with one of his main facets, the header, by finishing a cross from the corner into the air with which Al-Nassr increased the gap 2-0.
This goal allowed him to reach 35 goals in the campaign, with which he was able to surpass the record established by Moroccan Abderrazak Hamdallah during the 2018-2019 campaign precisely with Al-Ittihad, achieving 34 goals.
Anecdotally, the record could have ended at 37 goals in the season after the refereeing body annulled two goals as a result of offside.
With this, Al-Nassr officially closes the season with second place in the league after the champion Al-Hilal, whom they will face next Friday in the final of the Saudi Arabia Cup.
