Mexican boxer David Benavídez surprised his fans by revealing that he really wanted to come to the defense of boxing promoter Óscar de La Hoya after the boxer and undisputed super middleweight champion, Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, attacked him during the press conference held on the occasion of his fight against fellow Aztec Jaime Munguía.

According to the information provided by David Benavídez in an interview for ESNEWS, the ‘Mexican Monster’ highlighted that he has always considered himself a great admirer of Óscar de La Hoya and would gladly have come to his defense if he were attacked by Canelo Alvarez.

“It’s funny, when the press conference was and he criticized Canelo, Oscar was finally going to have the opportunity to unleash that jab. Because Canelo got up and went towards him, and Óscar says that he already had his fist ready. “I would have run to the press conference, and I would have jumped to defend Oscar,” he expressed in his statements.

Let us remember that on that occasion during the press conference the ‘Golden Boy’ took the microphone and confronted Canelo by asking him to respect his person; De La Hoya also spoke about the clenbuterol doping case that the man from Guadalajara had in the past and this generated a reaction to get up and go to where the promoter was with the intention of wanting to hit him.

“Óscar didn’t tell any lies. He’s crazy that a lot of people tend to forget that in Canelo’s best fight he tested positive for clenbuterol, and tried to blame it on a cow, but that’s not true. I asked a person who knows about this, and he tells me that for him to test positive for having eaten meat from that cow, he had to have eaten the entire cow. But people tend to forget that in his best performance he took clenbuterol. So when Óscar brought up that topic, he didn’t tell any lies,” added Benavídez.

“Óscar made him grow, it helped him earn a lot of money with that fight. Then they went their separate ways, I know that Óscar kept that to himself for a long time, and I’m happy that he was able to say it to his face,” the Mexican boxer concluded.
