Four inmates escaped from the Tangipahoa Parish Jail, located north of New Orleans, Louisiana. Three of the four fugitives are suspected of homicide, according to the Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards stated that the inmates managed to escape during recreation time in the jail yard. Initial investigations indicated that the inmates took advantage of a vulnerable section of the prison’s perimeter fence, which was easily maneuverable for a small body of stature.

Omarion Hookfin, 19, of Hammond, Louisiana; Avery Guidry, also 19, of Natalbany, Louisiana; and Travon Johnson, 21, also of Natalbany, and Jamarcus Cyprian, 20, of Amity, Louisiana, are the names of the fugitives.

Police reports indicate that Hookfin, Guidry and Johnson were in prison for their alleged role in a 2022 homicide in Hammond. Cyprian, for his part, was serving time for armed robbery and weapons charges. He also had more time added to his sentence for alleged aggravated assault while locked up in Catahoula Parish.

The charges against Johnson, Hookfin and Guidry stemmed from a 2022 home invasion in Hammond that ended with a 33-year-old man dead and his 12-year-old daughter hospitalized, according to reports from CBS New Orleans’ WWL-TV.

Meanwhile, authorities are doing everything possible to recapture the fugitives and have asked the community to remain alert and report any information that may help in the search.
