Israel said it was investigating the “serious and terrible” impact on Palestinian civilians of an Israeli bombing raid on Gaza the previous night that the military said targeted Hamas operatives.

“We are investigating,” said government spokesman Avi Hyman, after Gaza authorities reported 45 dead in a displaced persons camp. “Any loss of life, of civilian life, is serious and terrible. “We try to pursue Hamas and limit civilian casualties,” he added.

The attack on a refugee camp

Women, children and the elderly among the dead

On Sunday, an Israeli airstrike caused a fire in a displaced persons camp in the southern Gaza Strip.

The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that the death toll amounts to 45, among whom there are a dozen women, eight children and three elderly people; and the number of injured was 383.
