The mother of a little girl from Cincinnati received a sentence of between 9 and 13 years in prison for the death of the minor, who was sick with diabetes and never treated her. Her diet was based on sugary sodas, which also caused her teeth to rot.
Tamara Banks, 41, appeared in court in front of the judge who sentenced her for involuntary manslaughter. Her 4-year-old daughter, Karmity Hoeb, died in 2022 after being denied medical care and proper nutrition for her illness.
They gave him sugary soda in a bottle
Clermont County prosecutors said Tamara Banks and Christopher Hoeb neglected and neglected their young daughter, who experienced complications related to diabetes, after only receiving foods that did not help her problem, mainly sugary soda that was given to her with a bottle
They also expressed that Karmity’s teeth rotted, and he almost had none. Prosecutors found no evidence that the girl had been seen by a dentist.
The medical examiner reported that the cause of death of the minor was diabetic ketoacidosis, whose definition, according to the Mayo Clinic, is a serious complication of diabetes that occurs when ketones accumulate in the bloodstream.
The parents were indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter, murder, and child endangerment in 2023. The judge dismissed the last two charges, after both pleaded guilty.
Christopher Hoeb’s sentencing is scheduled for the morning of June 11, 2024.
Doctor said he was brain dead
“This is one of the most tragic cases I have ever encountered,” Clermont County Deputy Prosecutor Clay Tharp told The Cincinnati Enquirer.
Cincinnati police found the 4-year-old girl unconscious at her home on January 21, 2022. She was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where doctors determined she was brain dead.
FOZ 19 Now also indicated that after the medical diagnosis, life support was removed three days later, and the girl died.
Another son also died from complications
“Due to neglect and abuse by his parents, KH suffered for most of his short life,” prosecutor Mark Tekulve said in a news release.
Tamara Banks had a son who reportedly went into a coma at age 4 as a result of undiagnosed diabetes, prosecutors said.
Clermont County Common Pleas Judge Victor Haddad said her condition should have taught the woman about the dangers of diabetes before Karmity’s tragic death, the Inquirer reported.
