The legendary Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez stated that the various organizations that govern world boxing must be much firmer and fairer with respect to mandatory rivals so that they can have fights against the current world champions and thus have the possibility of fighting. for taking the belt of their respective divisions.
Although these statements were made by Chávez during an interview offered for Bernardo Pilatti’s channel, where he stated that he was not making it to any particular case; Despite this, he stated that the clearest example of all was that of the undisputed super middleweight champion, Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, who has not completed his fight against David Benavídez despite being the mandatory rival of the World Boxing Council. (CMB).
“Completely. Organisms should be much more efficient, they should be tougher. Because it is not fair for the current champions, it is not fair that the official challenger is not given the opportunity,” said Chávez, emphasizing that the organizations must be fair to each of their boxers.
Let us remember that Canelo Álvarez has avoided facing David Benavídez in the last two years despite being the mandatory rival of the super middleweights due to his organization and in his refusal he has faced a large number of rivals who do not have the distinction to fight for the champion belt.
The president of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaimán, has reiterated on several occasions that Canelo Álvarez has not violated any rule of the organization by not accepting his fight against the ‘Mexican Monster’; although the legendary Aztec fighter considered that they have not applied a punishment against the undisputed champion because currently business is more important than boxing.
“I’m not just talking about Canelo. I’m talking about all fighters in general. Now marketing is more business than entertainment, than boxing,” added Julio César Chávez.
“I always fought with the best at the time, I always fought with the official challenger. I am going to instill in my fighters, the sport comes first and the money comes later,” the former boxer concluded in his statements.
