Long Island resident William O’Donnell claimed the $5 million jackpot from the New York Lottery’s Cash X100 scratch-off game.
O’Donnell, a resident of Babylon (Suffolk County), received $3,255,000 after required taxes and withholdings, reported SILive.com. The lucky winner purchased the scratch-off at the “Maakrupa Super Stop” business located at 200A Montauk Highway in Lindenhurst.
There is currently one jackpot left in the Cash X100 game. There are also six $10 million jackpot tickets in circulation for five other scratch-off games, according to New York Lottery data.
In mid-May, another person on Long Island also won a prize in the Cash4Life lottery that will allow him to receive $1,000 a week for life. Players have up to one calendar year from the time of the drawing to claim their prizes.
In March, someone won $1.13 billion on the Mega Lottery in New Jersey, the largest jackpot ever won in that state. Their identity may never be revealed because a law there allows winners to remain anonymous.
The New York Lottery remains the largest and most profitable in North America, contributing $3.7 billion in fiscal year 2022-2023 to help support K-12 public education across the state.
According to statistics, New York is the “luckiest” state in the US for the number of jackpot winners in the Powerball and Mega Millions lotteries in recent decades.
