The World Boxing Council (WBC) determined this Tuesday that the fighter Terence Crawford will remain as recessed champion of the welterweight category until he makes his debut in the super welterweight division on August 3; At that moment the boxer will define which division he will stay in to know if he will leave the belt or keep it.

This decision was announced by the World Boxing Council through a statement on social networks, where they detailed that while waiting for the presentation by Bud Crawford at 154 pounds, they took the initiative to keep Terence as absolute champion of the welterweights.

“The WBC Governing Board has voted to accept our proud welterweight champion, Terence Crawford, to be placed as recessed champion in the 147-pound division. Terence Crawford conquered the WBC welterweight championship with a spectacular performance by knocking out the previously undefeated Eroll Spence on July 29, 2023,” the organization detailed in the text.

Terence Crawford will return to the ring on August 3 in the city of Los Angeles for the confrontation he will star in against Israil Madrimov for the 154-pound title of the World Boxing Association (WBA); In the statement it was determined that this will serve for the WBC as a kind of final eliminator for the 154-pound world title fight against Sebastian Fundora.

“Crawford will fight on August 3 at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California, in the debut promotion of Riyadh Season in the United States. His next fight will be at super welterweight against Israil Madrimov. The WBC Board of Governors also voted to officially sanction the Crawford vs. Madrimov fight as a final eliminator fight for the mandatory spot in the super welterweight division. “Terence Crawford will inform the WBC in which division he wishes to compete after his August fight,” the letter adds.
