Actress and producer Riley Keough, currently responsible for the Presley family estate, had a big scare last week, as an alleged auction of the iconic Graceland was announced.
The auction was to be conducted by Naussany Investments & Private Lending LLC. This company claimed that Lisa Marie Presley asked her for a loan six years ago and that she put the iconic mansion as collateral.
Keough immediately reacted and filed a lawsuit to stop the auction. From the beginning, the actress was very sure that everything was a scam and she stated this in the legal documents.
“The alleged promissory note and deed of trust are products of fraud and those persons who participated in the creation of said documents are believed to be guilty of a crime of forgery,” said the documents filed by Keough’s legal team.
Naussany claimed he had the right to foreclose on the mansion because Elvis Presley’s only daughter never repaid the loan. In addition to the execution, the company wanted to auction the place.
It has now been reported that this was indeed a scam and a “Nigerian scammer” took credit for the scheme. He did this through an email sent to ‘The New York Times’, where he proclaims himself as the “Nigerian scammer.”
The outlet reports that the email was written in Luganda, a Bantu language that is spoken primarily in the Buganda region of Uganda.
In addition to taking credit for what happened, he explained that he and his team are dedicated to scamming. He also stated, “I had a lot of fun figuring this out and it didn’t work out very well.”
Graceland is the mansion that Elvis Presley built in Memphis, Tennessee, and where he lived for several years; he and his daughter Lisa Marie Presley are even buried there. This makes it one of the most visited residences by tourists in the United States.
The property is said to welcome approximately 500,000 tourists a year.
