One of the most important players of the Argentine team is undoubtedly Ángel Di María. “Fideo”, as he is often nicknamed, is coming off an excellent season with Benfica in Portugal.
In 48 games with the Portuguese team’s shirt, the Argentine scored 17 goals and distributed another 15 assists. This excellent performance would lead Benfica to offer him one more year of contract with the club.
However, Di María seems to have other objectives in mind. Well, at 36 years old and with the announcement of his retirement from the national team after the 2024 Copa América, the man from Rosario would look for a change of scenery for next season.
The first option seemed to be his return to Argentine football. Specifically with Rosario Central, a club from his hometown and where he trained as a footballer.
But the latest information from the Argentine press indicates that Di María would have a decision made about his future and it seems that it will have nothing to do with returning to Rosario Central.
According to ESPN journalist Leo Paradizo, Di María and Inter Miami have already reached a verbal agreement to join the South Florida club.
The journalist affirms that Inter Miami would have already presented its formal proposal to incorporate the footballer. And that the final decision would be made by Di María, who, although he has not given a response, also reports that it would be positive.
Di María is currently with his family on vacation in Dubai and the definitive response to this Inter Miami proposal could be given in the coming weeks. Although it would not be until after June 30, the date on which the contract with Benfica ends, that it could be made official.
Rosario Central, the only one capable of stopping Di María from going to the MLS
On the other hand, they also report from ESPN that the only way for Di María to stop his decision to go to the MLS to play with Lionel Messi would be Rosario Central.
And the Argentine player would also have a proposal from the Rosario club. However, the latest controversies of threats against his family would have made Di María reconsider his return.
On the other hand, Inter Miami would propose to Di María that he can choose between joining the team in July or January. Which opens the possibility that “Fideo” can play six months in Rosario Central before jumping to American soccer.
